Cardigan Castle St. Marys St. Railings

The railings overlooking St Marys Street had been installed directly into the mortar that capped the walls above the passageway.  As a result, it was deemed too invasive and disruptive to remove the entire run, so an on-site conservation was deemed necessary.  The existing paint had almost totally failed, and there was much evidence of bodged repairs and additions over the years.  A thorough flame cleaning was performed, followed by on-site repairs to some of the worse damage, including the replacement of some scrolls and fixings.
Once the flame cleaning was finished, all rust was treated and then painted.  Due to the clement nature of the weather on the Welsh coastline, all repairs were performed under a temporary shelter that provided rain and wind protection to the area.
