Cardigan Castle Balcony
A build up of detritus around the base of the balcony, as elsewhere, had led to substantial material loss which was restored while retaining all possible original material. The bottom rail was largely replaced, being structurally unsound in it's original condition, and clearly marked new scroll clusters were let in at the bases. The balustrade is only fixed to the walls and rests on a series of lead balls, presumably to avoid making any holes in the lead. The originals being much reduced we recast them and reused the lead to make new ones.
